Heavy clashes have broken out between Kurdish forces and Daesh Takfiri terrorists in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk.
The terrorists first targeted an Iraqi police compound and then a power plant killing at least 16 people, including four Iranian technicians. Tehran has confirmed the Iranian casualties. The Takfiri group also attacked other government facilities but failed to seize any of the buildings. Reports coming out of Iraq suggest that skirmishes are still ongoing in different parts. However, Kirkuk Governor Najmaldin Karim has confirmed the killing of most of the terrorists except few who are reportedly under siege. Meanwhile, volunteer fighters have entered the city to help the Kurdish forces in their fight against the terrorists. Earlier, authorities also declared a curfew in the city and blocked a main road that connects Kirkuk to the capital Baghdad. The assault comes as Iraqi forces keep pushing ahead to liberate the city of Mosul from Daesh.
