Sears on Main Street for some 60 plus years (1945) had it's signage removed. A landmark for giving people directions at the US-59 and the Spur 527 split as to how to get into & around downtown. Had open face neon tubing for letters and you could see that puppy for miles, Finally got the chance to see how large it is.
Sears had a 100 year lease on the property which is owned by Rice University endowment. Store / area is to be rejuvenated. Someone has a major task on their hands, not with the building but with major human street flotsam that gathers in this area. Been like this for maybe five years. Good luck getting people to come here with the place smelling like a bus station toilet and all the human street jetsam lurking about resembling toilet brushes.
