"(it's important because) it starts that whole part of the nuclear story that leads to electrical generation using nuclear power"
An interesting (should you like the subject matter) although somewhat dry account of the ERB-1 pioneers and what they did, how, why, and where ...there's a great account of a liquid metal coolant called 'NAK' (for short) a mixture of sodium and potassium chloride which was highly unstable if it came into contact with either air or water.... this first reactor (for electric generation) was the EBR-1. The talking heads give the account of building the first reactor to see if the idea worked etc and after a a few years they scaled-up the process. There's some great pics and footage of Idaho in the 1940's...Interestingly, the row of bulbs we see hanging at the end of the generator (00:16) were put there to see the results of the first nuclear generated electricity...when they saw them light up they knew it all worked and from here it was all systems go! (they mention it somewhere in the film. as stated, mainly talking heads but interlaced with some interesting photos and footage)
Really, it's a little offbeat but so is everything these days...and of course to fellow rivet counters is extremely informative and interesting.
If it's not your cup-of-tea you are strongly urged to turn back now, pay it no heed and go about your business as it'll be for the best...however should you like the genre get a load of this for a spot-o'history.
