Igor Girkin also know under by "Igor Strelkov", is the Russian GRU agent who helped organize terrorist acts and establish russian occupation over Donbass. And previously, in 2014. Girkin arrived in Crimea describing himself as the "Kremlin's emissary," and soon after formed the 'Crimean self-defense' forces. His position was above that of self-declared Crimea prime minister Sergei Aksyonov, and his main task in March 2014 was the accelerated military training for the newly formed Crimean forces, and selecting the best among them for transfer to the invasion of the Donbas. Girkin personally negotiated and oversaw the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Crimea.

For his involvement in the Crimean occupation, he was awarded a military Medal for the Return of Crimea and also a Commemorative gold coin the event. The coin was minted in Gold and a limited minting.
It looks like Girkin hit some money troubles, as the coin that was issued to him is now listed in Moscow's "Coins and Medals" Auction catalog.

The coin is listed for a starting price of 1,000,000 Rubles and the description reads "The presented copy of the medal was awarded to I. I. Strelkov. Strelkov Igor Ivanovich (Girkin Igor Vsevolodovich, born December 17, 1970, Moscow) who is a state, military and political figure, journalist and writer."
Girkin does not deny that he is selling his awards. In particular, on his VK page , he confirmed that he received this medal in 2014, but even before the invasion of the Ukrainian Donbass.

In May 2016, Girkin announced the creation of the Russian National Movement, a neo-imperialist political party. The party is in favor of "uniting the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, and other Russian lands into a single all-Russian state and transforming the entire territory of the former USSR into an unconditional zone of Russian influence. He stated "the Russian National Movement fully rejects President Vladimir Putin's regime and calls for an end to the current climate of fear and intimidation of Russia's citizens".
