A 'world cup of ice sculpture' was held in the northern Italian of Pontebba last weekend.
Teams had 10 hours to work on a 3-metre cube of snow and ice, using barbed wire, saws, blades and chisels.
The contest started Sunday morning at 8 AM, and the sculptures were completed by 6 PM. Then, tourists and residents gave a note to the works and designate the winner. The first prize this year went to an abstract sculpture, entitled "Family", created by a group from Mongolia. Thanks to the persistent cold, the sculptures can still be seen in the main street of the town.
