The unique winter air drop, the first in military history, took place in the region around the town of Vyazma 200 km to the west from Moscow.
During their raid behind the German frontline eastwards to the main forces of the Red Army Soviet paratroopers completely wiped out all German units on their way in several localities occupied by the latter.
After another such annihilation of a German military base two youngest German soldiers, both deprived of their winter clothes and disarmed by the Soviet paratroopers, are given a chance to flee to the next German outpost a few miles away and, if they are lucky and survive, to tell the horror story of how the Soviet soldiers appeared out of nowhere and wiped out their German detachment.
