Heavy snowfall in Madrid brought severe disruption to the Spanish capital on Monday.
Its main airport, Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas, was forced to close two runways because of the bad weather.
It operated with just two runways, while the other two were cleared of snow. Around 25 flights were cancelled, reported the Spanish airport authority AENA.
Authorities in Madrid activated the "orange level" of the "winter emergency plan" this afternoon. They recommended residents to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
The cold front is expected to last until Wednesday said AEMET, the country's meteorological service.
