At least five soldiers were killed in a suicide car bombing in Yemen's southern port city of Aden on Sunday, according to medical and security sources.
The attack unravelled at a checkpoint outside the main security headquarters in Aden's Khor Maksar district, security sources said. Following the bombing, clashes immediately broke out in the area and gunmen reportedly attacked the building of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
It is unclear who was behind the attack or the ensuing clashes.
Aden is the stronghold of the Saudi-backed government of ousted Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. The city is dominated by Yemeni forces backed by the United Arab Emirates, a member of the Saudi-led coalition against Houthi rebels in Sanaa.
