Albania's Socialists set for election win

Albania's ruling Socialist Party looks set to win the county's parliamentary election taking between 45 and 49 percent of votes. If the exit poll proves to be correct it means Prime Minister Edi Rama will be returned to power but this time he will have secured more than 71 seats in the 140 seat assembly. The same poll puts the opposition Democratic Party lead by Lulzim Basha on around 34 percent. Turn out appears to have been low - down ten percent fours years ago - that has been attributed to the ending of Ramadan festivities in the mainly Muslim country. Both parties recently signed a land mark deal to back efforts to secure European Union membership. A strong mandate for the Socialists will allow vital judicial reforms to be pushed through, regarded as essential by Brussels before membership talks can progress. Holding a free and fair election is also key to launching EU membership talks for the nation of 2.9 million, which is already a NATO member. Observing voting in #Kamez, #Tirana.
